Most young children love to put things in their mouth. However, some children are aversive to textures and tastes. This could be a learned behavior or part of a medical problem. This class will expose children to a variety of textures, smells, and tastes (both non-food and food) in a safe, fun environment. Parents will learn how to incorporate activities and techniques at home that promote greater acceptance of food and reduce texture aversion and “picky” eating.

Sensory exploration is a way of examining, discovering, categorizing, and making sense of the world. However, all ages can benefit from sensory play. 50-minute class.

Social skills are the foundation for getting along with others. A lack of social skills leads to difficulty making friends, reduced self-esteem, and emotional and behavioral difficulties. This class is designed to help develop positive social skills through engaging and interactive activities. Participants will learn turn-taking, conversational skills, perspective taking, self-regulation, problem-solving skills and emotion identification. Some children develop social skills easily while others do not. People with learning disabilities, sensory integration difficulties, attention deficits, social communication impairments and people with autism-spectra disorders need additional training in social skills. Focus of skills will be based on age of the group. Will include some mindfulness. 50-minute class.
