Class participants will learn the basics of mindfulness, which defined as being present in the moment, paying attention to surroundings, self, and others, in a non-judgmental way. All ages can benefit from mindfulness. Research shows that mindfulness improves focus, attention, self-regulation, compassion, academic/work performance, decreased stress, depression, and anxiety.

As we age, there are physiological changes to the muscles used to produce voice. These vocal changes can adversely affect a person's ability to communicate to friends, family, and within the work setting, ranging from mild to severe. This beginner class will focus on restrengthening or maintaining muscles involved in producing voice, including breath work, vocal exercises, and simple core exercises. Although designed for the aging voice, this is an excellent class for anyone unhappy with the quality of their voice, vocal loudness, or complain of running out of breath when talking. Vocal screening required prior to class participation.
FUNctional Wellness
THURSDAYS:

This is a combined class of vocal, physical, and cognitive exercises, all of which can be adapted depending on individual’s needs. The framework for this class is based on Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery and SPEAK OUT programs, however, is beneficial for anyone that wants to improve voice, cognition, balance, and functional fitness for day-to-day activities all at once. This class is led by staff with extra training in Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery and functional fitness.
